Comparing texts and odd and even numbers

This week we have been learning how to compare different texts. Today we focused on comparing two characters in a story. We read The Tortoise and the Hare and used a Venn diagram to compare how they are the same, different and alike. We all agreed that working hard does pay off (just like the tortoise in the story)! The students loved the story and it's a childhood favorite of mine! I remember hearing the story on the TV show Reading Rainbow.

In math, we started learning about odd and even numbers. It was a little tricky at first but most were starting to understand the concept. We used counters to make odd or even groups, watched a Brainpopjr clip, and completed a math worksheet to help gain a better understanding of the concept. Practice at home by asking your child if a number is odd or even.
