We are busy in first grade learning all about the country of Japan! We located Japan on a globe and map, discussed the main islands, and we learned about Japanese celebrations (Children's Day and the Cherry Blossom celebration).
To finish off the fun for the day, made cherry blossom paintings by blowing paint on paper using a straw and using fingers to create a pretty pink blossoms. The kids LOVED doing this! It was messy fun! The students then created a carp fish to "fly" in our classroom in honor of the Children's Day celebration in Japan.
Beautiful cherry blossoms! You always inspire me this time of year to choose a country to study with the second graders. Remind me next year before it's too late!
